In other news, apparently in the USA there was some kind of sporting contest on television yesterday that's kind of popular...? (Bears or Colts? C'mon, tell me people!)

COOOOOLLLLTTTTTSSSSSSSS.

yeah.
I watched, which made everyone go o.0 because I don't even know how soccerworks

The commercials were great. And there were 4 fumbles in the first quarter, the fools! (it was raining.)

And Prince played at half time. Yes, he sang Purple Rain. And Bob Marly. And Rolling Stones. And Tina Turner (bwhahahaha!) And the stage he sang on was his sign. Whatever the hell it is.

And the Colts kicked the Bear's asses, btw.

It's understandable that you didn't understand what was going on, if you thought you were watching soccer.

hullo? I'm speaking English English. Or just plain 'everyone else sans America calls football soccer and vice versa.'

Yeah.

Plz to be knowing whut you are talking about

Except....no.

See, the game that everyone else calls football, or footie, or Fußball, is what the Americans call soccer, i.e., the game where a round black-and-white ball stays on the ground and people have to kick it around with their feet and knees and heads and anything but their hands, unless they get confused and kick around the black-and-white uniformed people instead (or sometimes other players, which results in a totally unfair penalty, c'mon. Stupid Italians).

What the Americans call football, and what the rest of the world calls 'American football' or 'a pansy version of rugby with padded costumes', is the game where a bunch of guys in tights, padded jerseys, and helments all bend over in front of each other to show off their tights to the guys behind them, and then tackle each other to the ground. There's a bit of running away from mobs involved as well. This is what the Superbowl plays.

So British English doesn't really have 'soccer'. It's 'football' for the first game and 'American football' for the very heterosexual other thing that was playing on Sunday.

I hope you are no longer confused.

Not that I would know personally, from watching, anyway, but I hear through the grapevine that the Colts won.

Happy Birthday to You
